Hello!

My name is Becky and I'm becoming not poor.

I grew up in a low-income family that showed me how hard it was to be poor. Through food banks, and hand-me downs, to studying for the ACT at a Barnes and Noble because I couldn't afford to buy the books. Being poor plays a role in how you see the world. For me it meant one thing: survival mode was normal.

I ended up going to a top University on income-based scholarships #ThankYouPellGrant. At the end of college I started a business that I pursued afterwards instead of consulting or I-banking. Running a startup pushed me right back to where I was comfortable: "surviving". I made very little money, cleaned houses, ignored collections calls, slept on floors at friends houses, showered at a local coworking space, and even lived out of my car for a few months.

In September of 2018 I got a real job and earned more in 4 months than I had in the last 3 years of my life combined. But nothing had changed in my financial life. I was still poor. I was still living paycheck to paycheck. I was still paying nothing but minimums on all of my debt.

That's when I made the change. If I didn't get out of survival mode I would end up just like my parents. Poor and hopeless. And I didn't want that for any of us. I wanted to be the one that got us all out. That broke the cycle of poverty. 8 months later my net worth has increased by $25k, I've learned how to budget, how to manage my money in an intentional way, and spend my dollars on what matters.

My mission in life is to help others realize they CAN build wealth, break the cycle, and go from surviving to thriving, no matter where they came from!
